These are links to some of my fiction and poetry. Honestly, I’m still long way from being in The New Yorker stable of great modern writers, but I try. Sometimes.
I tend to write in two genres, literary and science fiction (or speculative fiction, if you prefer). You’ll see examples of both here.
Genre Rant Here
However, I pretty much hate genre categories. When literary writers write science fiction, some of them refuse to acknowledge it (yes, I’m looking at you, Ian). That’s just silly.
On the other hand, I wrote a fantasy novel about a troll in modern Florida and labeled it “literary fantasy.” Because I’m pretentious? Maybe, but I think it’s mostly because it has some potentially puzzling literary writing and I don’t want to piss off somebody expecting to pick up your more traditional urban fantasy.
Honestly, when I write a straight up fantasy, I’ll have no problem calling it that.
So, genres are maddening and I hate them but I know they largely come down to marketing and reader expectations. I’ve just got to suck it up and deal with reality, such as it is (and isn’t).
Bottom line: I get cranky sometimes.
I hope you enjoy whatever you read, if you read anything, but if you don’t, you can tell me. As long as you don’t tell anyone else. (Insert smiley face here, I guess).
Anyhow, please click on the images rather than the titles of the stories to get to the stories rather than the images. I know, confusing, right? Fucking writers.
